Time to decide what photograph I’ll have as my Yule card.

On our way to the creek.

Back again and the weather is much the same as last weekend, brighter though because the clouds are much thinner. They said we would get fog most part of the day but seen as fog it is a disappointment, more like thicker haze I think. Well, at least it isn’t raining yet πŸ™‚ The week here at home has been quite uneventful, mostly watching tv and reading but we have started using the painting box and machine the company bought for almost 1,5 years ago πŸ™‚

We were four people looking like fools when the man explained how we should do when cleaning the machine and how to use it while painting πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The one teaching us is probably really good in knowing the machine but he was totally useless when it came to explaining πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The one getting it first of us four was my former apprentice oddly enough because he had problems understanding the old machine that was very easy to understand πŸ™‚ He too is rather useless when it comes to explaining πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ But I finally understood how it works yesterday when I was the only painter at work. It’s always best to use the try and error method to be honest, I tried and it erred many times before I got it. I do hope I’ll remember what I did now on Monday morning πŸ™‚

There are lots of small, old roads leading out to different parts of the bog. Most of them are barely visible any longer.

From now on I must concentrate to reduce the amount of powder-paint we use, at the moment we’re using more with the new machine than we did with the old one πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The purpose with the new machine is to use less powder after all πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It’s a bit strange really, the tele-photo lens I got with the latest camera doesn’t work on auto focus on my best camera but it works perfect with the camera it came with?! Both camera’s are Nikon and both have auto focus but it just doesn’t work on auto focus on my Nikon D3000 ? I’ve tried different settings but still it refuses to do what I want it to πŸ™‚ Well no big problems really, I’ll just focus manually instead but it is a bit strange. I didn’t use that lens this morning but I did use the other lens that followed the latest camera. I have to say that it’s much better than the original lens for my best camera.

We’ve gotten a new bunch of hunters here since my neighbor sold and moved. The only interest they have is to shoot anything that moves it seems so we have very few deers left now. I’ve seen tracks from some out by the bog but I’ve only seen the two that walks close to our cottages. I’m pretty sure Doris the doe still is around because she walks mostly on the property where the “old” guys still hunt. They still believe in wildlife management. The new bunch simply hires the grounds for hunting and that’s it, to bad that they are allowed to.

I have a fire in the stove and a cup of coffee by my side. Today I must decide on what photograph I’ll use as Yule card this year. I have three that I’ll decide between, they are a bit grainy but I like them anyway. The problem is that one never knows how they’ll look after transferred from my computer to the photo company’s computer and then transferred to paper. So I’ll hold my thumbs and cross my fingers so that it’ll work out fine πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

Men vad…..!?
    Trevlig helg!

    • Hejsan Susie!

  2. hi christer! glad you are back. i missed you all week! having all those hunters so close would make me a bit nervous. hunters around here should at anything that moves including people. sometimes you hear that a bullet has gone through someones window. it seems your weather is mild for this time of year? i am heading north to amish country to try to find a turkey today! joyce

    • Hi Joyce!
      Nice to be back πŸ™‚

I’m not especially worried that they would shoot me or my dogs but I do stay out of the forest when I know they are out there.
Last year someone shot a moose and the bullet went through the animal and killed a skier behind him! Talk about bad luck! I’m pretty sure that man still would be alive though if they had placed signs that they were hunting.

Yes it is very mild for the season and that’s why we’re having all these clouds and rainy weather.

Good luck in finding a good turkey!
      Christer.

  3. Welcome back!
Sometimes you just need a break. I’ve been feeling the same way.
You know how I feel about those hunters. Grrrr. 😦
Sounds like you had 2 guys that thought the same confused way! πŸ™‚ so that helped them to understand each other.
I always prefer to have someone show me and then give me time to just figure it out.
Good luck with remembering how to work your new machine. I do stuff like that on the computer and then later try to remember what I did.
Anyway…Good luck with your Christmas cards! I didn’t send out any last year…maybe I should start worrying about it and get it done this year!
    πŸ™‚ – Cindi

    • Hi Cindi!

Yes I think I needed this little break.

I don’t like those hunters that shots animals for the pleasure of it and never cares if there are any animals left when they are gone.

Unfortunately I never got the time to figure anything out before we started using the machine πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ But I think I got the hang of it now πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

The cards are ordered and I hope they’ll look good!

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  4. Hi Christer,
Welcome back! Hope your weather improves, too.

I have read several reviews on the Nikon 3000 and the newer model and have seen it mentioned many times that lenses from older models won’t work on auto focus even though the lenses have auto focus. It’s a programming change or something. As you say, it doesn’t matter if you can manually focus.

When you say the new hunters hire the grounds do you mean that they are “renting” hunting rights on someone’s private property? If they are on public land, are there not rules regarding what they can shoot and how much of it they can shoot?

It’s sunny and seasonably cool here, about 48F for the high. There is no wind so it’s pleasant enough in the sun. I’m hobbling about on a cane at the moment and that is an improvement from the crutches. I was actually able to take the car out for a short drive this morning. I was too cautious to go all the way to the Starbucks that has a drive through window so I stopped at Dunkin Donuts instead. Results: poor coffee and untasty breakfast sandwich instead of the good coffee and tasty breakfast sandwich that I would have had at Starbucks. Oh, well. I will be braver tomorrow, especially if my gimpy foot has improved even more. Something to look forward to. πŸ˜€
    Enjoy the day!

    • Hi Caryn!

No it won’t πŸ™‚ But at least it’s unusually warm for the season here.

I’ve missed that about old lenses and new models, well at least I have an explanation now πŸ™‚ The Nikon D70 is an older model and that’s probably why it works on together with that camera. Thanks for the info!

Yes they rent from a private owner, the owner of the castle. I’m pretty sure there must be rules on private property as well but who would check that those rules are followed?

What has happened to Your foot??? I’ve only been out on the internet to check my mails and a quick look on FB. I haven’t even been to Kat!! I do hope it isn’t anything too serious and that You’ll be more brave tomorrow πŸ™‚ Nothing worse than bad coffee and bad sandwich for breakfast πŸ™‚

Have a great day despite Your foot!
      Christer.

      • I don’t know what I did to my foot. It hurt too much to contemplate walking from my car to the emergency room door so I hobbled around the house on crutches for a week. I have arthritis in it anyway and sometimes that acts up but this is different. Possibly cuboid syndrome. Self diagnosis from the internet. πŸ˜€ I’ve been massaging it with that diagnosis in mind. Some time early this morning something popped in a different way from the usual pops and suddenly most of the pain was gone. It took me a while to believe that it was really gone. I can get around with a cane and can put most of my weight on the foot now. Only problem is I can’t wear any of my shoes except for the Croc sandals. My feet were a little cold in the jeep this morning. πŸ˜€ They are the kind of sandals that have the strap that goes between the big toe and the next one so I can’t even wear socks with them. I guess I better start knitting toe socks. πŸ˜€
Bad coffee and untasty breakfast are powerful motivators. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

      • Well if it popped in a different way and it feels better I’m pretty sure You are doing something right anyway πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
I hope You’re so much better tomorrow that You can get a descent cup of coffee πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ .-)

  5. Good to see you back in the Blog-o-sphere, Christer. You must know that you and your photos and dogs and cats have been missed!! I love the photo of Bertil walking over the creek! Good luck with the new work machine! Sounds like you are still having fun working with the new-old camera and the lenses. I do so hope that Doris and her friends can stay out of the way of those disgusting hunters. And you and your little Family be careful out there, my god, it sounds nerve-wracking. Plus if they are drinking…….
    Anyway, have a good weekend.

    • Hi Robin!

      Nice to be back πŸ™‚
Thanks, I need all the luck I can get with that new machine πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Yes I’m having fun trying my cameras and lenses πŸ™‚

I’m pretty sure Doris doesn’t walk down to that area, especially since they still are working in the forest with logging and that part is in the way of walking down to that place.

At least this group of hunters parks their cars very visible so I’ll always know when they are out there. Thankfully drinking and hunting is rare here now days, to many deaths in the past has stopped that habit.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  6. Christer,
    Welcome Back!

I, like you, have to learn by trial and error, and it is easier without people around offering suggestions on what to do.

We had nearly a week of rain, and it made me restless and grumpy too. I read and even napped almost every day. It seemed the best way to spend an ugly day. Since I wrote my blog earlier, the sky has gotten cloudy and gray. It is a perfect day to stay home!

Stay warm and enjoy your tea!

    • Hi Kat!

      Thank You πŸ™‚

Yes that’s the best way to learn everything! Unfortunately I must do it while working πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Days like these are made for napping and reading, perhaps watching a really bad movie as well πŸ™‚

Warm and nice here in the cottage and it smells from a newly baked bread πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  7. so good to see you back, hope you are feeling right as rain. Too bad the new owners have no regard for proper management hunting. I come from a hunting family and my son and son in lae are avid hunters but only what they can eat, my son hunts only on property we own though, sadly we have people hunt on our property all the time, we went there yesterday ( I wrote about this on my blog) and we had several trucks go by with hunters in them, small game season is also open here so people drive the back roads looking for prairie chicken and partridge.Deer season is open and moose season is open as well, someone shot a moose on our property last year, made us feel so bad, you must have a wonderful selection of photos for your Yule card,

    • Hi Laurie!

      Nice to be back πŸ™‚

I can only hope that they feed the deers when tough times comes in the winter, if there are any left. I don’t min hunting but they must take care of the animals, not just kill as many as they can and then just leave!

Most hunting is regulated here, especially after moose, the bigger deers and wild hogs. But if anyone catches a hunter on someone else’s property all hell break loose πŸ™‚ So when ever a moose runs in to another property and dies after a shot, they automatically calls that property owner. If they are lucky they can keep the moose anyway but very often the property owner takes it. No one complains about it even if they loose the moose.

No I actually only had three photographs since I never save any after posting them here in my blog πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

    • Hi dq!

Anything made of metal. So it can be parts to harvesters, or lockers or smaller things like cookie trays and things like that.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  8. I am feeling the way that you did earlier this week, Christer, about needing a break. It’s not that I don’t have topics to post about, but there have been some recent family issues that have been upsetting. I had thought about doing a post on that subject, but decided just to slow down on posting as everyone has their own problems from time to time.
Too bad the new lens will not work on the autofocus setting on your older Nikon. I don’t miss my digital SLRs and carrying the extra equipment. Glad to read that Doris the doe is still around.

    • Hi Beatrice!

I think it’s better to slow down than writing about family issues. It would always be a risk that what ever You write one day will come back and hit You in the head so to speak.

I got a bit surprised that it didn’t work but I have no problems focusing myself so that’s ok. But I like to be in control when I take my photographs and adjust the settings the way I want them so I don’t mind bringing extra equipment from time to time πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.
