Now we start to decorate.

We almost got some sunshine this morning too but just as the sun was going to rise above the horizon clouds came and covered it. But so far the clouds are rather thin and I can sort of see the sun through them. We’re moving towards colder temperatures now and even if it still is rather warm I can feel the change coming. By the end of next week we’ll have below 0 C (32 F) all day long, we even might get some snow.

I put up the light-chains yesterday instead of looking at cross-country skiing and I can honestly say it looks just as bad as last year 🙂 🙂 🙂 Instead of looking like a dead crow this year it can look like the head of a crane or a very stylized spruce 🙂 I’ve found the brand on these chains on the internet so I’ll most possibly order some extra so I can place them as I really wish 🙂 But if that happens this year or next I can’t say 🙂

The old tombs.

Today it’s only one month left to Yule, well for us it’s one day less since we have Yule eve as our big day. Yule starts here more or less next week with the first of Advent, finally we too have something to look forward too since we have no holidays during autumn. So this week is the start of our Yule decorating. The electric advent candlesticks will start to shine in the windows, the advent candlesticks with four “normal” candles will be brought out from the storage and the advent stars will also be hung up in our windows.

I’ll also place my little potted spruce in my living room and dress it with straw figures, glitter and a small multi colored light-chain. It has grown some since last Yule so this year I think it will look less over decorated 🙂 I might even make some tiny fake Yule presents to place around it 🙂 I haven’t cared about decorating my home for several years but it’s actually quite fun 🙂

It’s time to take my dogs for a walk again and I think I’ll collect some different mosses and lichens to decorate my advent candlestick. I don’t think the hunters are out there today, otherwise I’ll have to wait another week.

Here it is, the amazing light-chain 🙂 🙂 🙂

Have a great day!

  2. at least you are decorating! i like your decorations. so many people get depressed around the holidays and don’t do anything. i appreciate seeing anyone’s decorations. it is snowing here right now! i love it!!!

    • Hi Joyce!

I didn’t do any decoration for at least ten years but started again last winter 🙂 I didn’t want to take the fight with my rather thorny crab apple tree four yards up in the air 🙂 So now it looks like it does and I’m happy that I didn’t fall down while doing it 🙂 🙂 🙂

No snow yet, very strange winter here and I like it 🙂

      Have a great day!

  4. Hi Christer,
You put the fox in the banner. Great!

Definitely not a dead crow. Maybe a shark laying down a light trail? A squid with one very long tentacle? 🙂
It’s so pleasant to have decorative lights in the dark of winter. I borrowed you idea of the candles on the doorstep and now have two lanterns on my front steps. They are so welcoming at night. Maybe I will put some greenery around them for Yule.
So far I have put down the Christmas door mat and hung up the decoration on the front door. The Christmas La Bamba singing chihuahua toy is already out. I guess I’m all set. 😀

Sunny, cold and very windy here today. Rocky can take a quick run outside for his business. I’m not going anywhere. 🙂

    • Hi Caryn!

🙂 🙂 🙂 I like the squid thing 🙂 But I think one can see the head of a crane with a sort of short and thick beak 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ll start having candles in my lanterns next weekend. I too think they are welcoming, perhaps stupid to light them up since I really don’t want anyone to visit 🙂 🙂 🙂

A Christmas La Bamba chihuahua 🙂 🙂 🙂 I knew there was something missing in my life 🙂 🙂 🙂

Strong winds are blowing here now and I felt some rain too when I let Sune out for a while. So I’ll stay indoors eating rice porridge 🙂

      Have a great day!

  5. Christer, I love the fox in your header. Glad you are decorating; we are starting a bit of that here. It snowed heavily overnight; must have about 4 inches right now. Sune and Nova look like they are having fun. How old is Sune now? I have been studying your light design and have concluded that if you lean back a bit, close one eye and squint the other one, you can possibly see a flying wooden shoe with a formation of disorganized cranes trailing behind.

    • Hi Robin!

I thought it was time to change and when I now have a descent photo of a fox why not use it 🙂 Now You’re two that saw the change 🙂
Thankfully no snow here yet 🙂

Sune is seven months old now, yesterday actually 🙂 he and Nova have fun all the time 🙂

Amazing what one can see while leaning backwards, squinting with our ones eyes 🙂 🙂 🙂 The wind blows hard now so it might change to something else by tomorrow 🙂

      Have a great day!

    • Hi Kat!

Yes it is, now it’s dark when I stop working at 4 pm and I agree, it does feel much colder in the dark.

You’re kind 🙂 But since they are the only lights in the village I don’t care about how they look 🙂 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day!

  6. Hi Christer, that fox is just beautiful!
Aren’t you afraid that a stray bullet could hit your house with hunters out there wandering about. I would make me a bit nervous I think.
Are the lights on your little house? I am still putting away Fall decorations! 🙂 I need to get busy and soon!
Take snow yet? Joyce has some! No snow but at least it was really cold this morning. 47 degree’s. 🙂 Not so cold to you I imagine. :):)

    • Hi Mona!

It is but I wish I could have taken a photograph of the big one that used to play with Hector long ago 🙂

No I’m not strangely enough, at least not when it comes to the ones hunting close to my cottage. They now and follow the rules strictly. But I just read about one hunter getting killed by getting the bullet in his head. The one firing the gun aimed at a moose but hit his friend instead.

Yes they are and soon I’ll put up the electric advent candlesticks and the star of advent too 🙂

Just a little snow so far, at least that didn’t melt away directly. But we’ll get more this coming Thursday to Sunday they say.
      47! almost summer temps here 🙂 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day!

  7. I hope you do decorate some. I have gotten away from the all over the house decorating and a big tree and just put little holiday items around to brighten the rooms. Rarely have guests in my tiny house because everyone goes over to my daughter’s but it’s nice to see them cheering up a room. Ribbons on the dog’s collars can also make the Yule bright. Just for the day, though, because they will pull them off and they’ll go the way of the bowl!

    • Hi Sharlene!

I didn’t decorate for a very long time but started again last Yule. So I’ll have my yule spruce with lights and straw figures and I’ll have my advent candlesticks and star of advent too 🙂

My dogs never have collars indoors so I guess they wouldn’t like anything else around their necks 🙂 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day!

  8. I like the sound of the moss and lichens around the candles, thats such a lovely way t decorate, my favorite way is to bring some of the out doors in, those are lovely photos today!

    • Hi Laurie!

It is tradition to decorate the Advent candlestick with lichens here. We call it white moss but it’s actually a lichen called window lichen 🙂 This time I’ll have mostly green moss and nothing else. It’s this decoration that is the cause of so many homes burning down before or during christmas here, people forget to put out the lights and the moss/ liches catch fire. I never lit my candles so I’m safe from that cause anyway 🙂

      Have a great day!
