How to do it.
The air is much colder than the temperatures shows it is and it’s because of the strong wind we’re having. We did get some snow but it’s barely a dusting on the lawn but more will come and I hope it can wait until Saturday. Last week they predicted that we would get a warm winter and now they predict that it will be as bad as it was three years ago. I do wish they could make up their minds 🙂 🙂 🙂 I don’t mind the cold as long as we don’t get any snow 🙂
I promised some of You that I would write down how to make rice porridge. It’s a simple recipe and it is very easy to do as long as one doesn’t forget to stir a lot and not forgetting that it is milk one is boiling 🙂 🙂 🙂 This recipe is for four persons.
200 gram ( 7,05 oz or 0,44 pound I don’t know which to use here) round grain rice. It’s the same You would use for rice pudding.
2 dl ( 7 fluid ounce) water.
1 1/4 liter milk ( 1/3 of an US gallon).
1/2 -1 teaspoon salt.
Put the rice, water and salt in a pan and boil it for 2-3 minutes. Add the milk and bring to a boil quickly. Lower the temperature and let it simmer for 40-50 minutes depending on how runny You want the porridge. IT MUST NEVER BURN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE PAN! Because that makes the porridge more or less inedible 🙂 Many of us places a piece of cinnamon in the pan together with the milk, not the powder though. That makes the porridge taste very nice and I always add some Vanilla sugar too 🙂 If You make it runny You won’t need to have any more milk when You eat it. Some rather have fruit sauce (preferable raspberry or strawberry flavored) poured on the porridge while eating it.
This porridge is a must here at Yule time but not so much any other time of the year. If You should make too much porridge, don’t throw it away, You can make Rice à la Malta of it. Then You’ll mix the left over porridge with whipped cream, lots of vanilla sugar and fruit of ones choice. I love it with strawberries or strawberry jam. Not healthy for a second but oh so delicious 🙂 🙂 🙂
It’s time to make something to eat once again. Today it might be Semolina porridge, another porridge I really like. I’m not sure I have enough with milk at home though.
