Slippery roads.

Guess if I’m glad that I don’t have to work today, I wouldn’t have made it up this small little slope that’s outside my cottage 🙂 It rained most parts of yesterday and now temperatures are below 0C (32F) again, it’s like a giant ice skating rink out there 🙂 It’s even hard to walk in the forest now even if it is better than on the roads.

I talked to the guy that took care of all the cut down trees this morning, his job is done here and now he had to move his huge machine. The problem was that the lorry that was supposed to pick it up couldn’t even come close, the road outside the village is just as bad as it is in the village 🙂 🙂 🙂

Nova saw it but didn't care much, she knew she couldn't do anything since she was leashed :-)

I can assure You that it was pretty exiting to walk down tghe slope towards my cottage :-)

The weight of the machine and the chains on its wheels broke up the ice somewhat but not enough to make the road better. The crust on the snow cover could almost take my weight but where it broke my feet went straight down in to icy cold puddles 🙂 This is a typical winter here, the Gulf Stream makes it somewhat difficult by every now and again give us warm winds from the ocean.

Sune has rather wide feet for his size so he can walk anywhere, Nova however has rather small feet for her weig´ht so she broke through the crust where it was as thinnest. Orvar and Hector also have rather wide feet but weighs enough to also break through on thin places.

The sun is slowly going down now, it rose at 8:53 this morning and it will be gone at 3:21 this afternoon. The day is a minute or so longer than it was last week, it goes so slowly now in the beginning. We might not go on another walk today but I feel we should enjoy these last minutes of sun, it hasn’t shown that much this year.

    • Hi JD!

I have a kind of those but I can’t find them and I didn’t think I would need to buy new ones already now 🙂 🙂 🙂
I’m glad You like them 🙂

      Have a great day!

      • If you end up buying a pair how about a finder fee (horehound candy)? lol….I found a site to order some, hooray, I am going to buy some for me and for my dad and mail it to him. That will make him happy. I feel like I am where you are, our low last night was 25 and tonite 21. That is cold for Arizona. Yikes.

      • Hi JD!

        🙂 🙂 🙂
I’m afraid the horehound candy is more or less finished by now, they are quite addictive 🙂 🙂 🙂

We’re having 14F here at the moment but it always get colder before the sun goes up so I’m pretty sure it will sink to 10 if we’re unlucky. But I think that it’s too cold already at 21F 🙂

        Have a great day!

    • Hi Laurie!

I’m glad too even though they have been eating most of my Ilex 🙂 🙂 🙂

Yes he has his fathers big feet (he is a Bernese Mountain Dog) but his mothers small body 🙂

      Have a great day!

  2. Hi Christer,
You should get a sled and hook the dogs up to it then you won’t have to worry about slipping on ice and falling through the snow. You might have to worry about speed, steering and stopping but it would be exciting. 😀

The shot of the moon through the branches is cool. It looks like it is woven into the trees.

The bullfinches and the other birds are very colorful for little brown and grey birds. There are some cardinals in the yard and also blue jays. Those are the most colorful ones at this time of year. The goldfinches are in winter drab right now and the other birds are mottled brown or grey and black.

It’s pouring rain and blowing it around here. The temperature is warmer than yesterday but the wind and rain makes it feel much colder. An inside day, for sure.
Enjoy the rest of your day.

    • Hi Caryn!

That would be something 🙂 But Nova would have to be the leader and we all know where she would lead me if she saw a hare 🙂 🙂 🙂

I do like that photograph too!

Most birds are grey or brown here but we have a few with very bright colors, especially the Bullfinch and the Bluetit and Great tit. Many look so similar now that I can’t see any difference 🙂

Really nice here today and it helped that we didn’t have any wind. Cold tomorrow but after that it’ll be warm again.

      Have a great day!

  3. Christer,
I love the moon shot. In the rest of the photos I could feel the cold and almost shivered at the thought of that walk of yours. The dogs love it though.

It is really warm today, warmer than I expected, but the rain continues. It is getting lighter so I’m hoping the rain will stop so Gracie and I can go to the dump later. We would be in real trouble if all this wet froze.

Enjoy your tea and the warmth of your stove and cottage!

    • Hi Kat!

I like both those photographs too.

Yes the dogs loves it and to tell the truth I didn’t think it was that bad either because there was no wind. Way too slippery though!

It seems You have our summer weather and temperatures now 🙂 🙂 🙂

I have a bread just waiting to be placed in the oven so soon it will smell so nice here in my cottage 🙂

      Have a great day!

  4. Hi Christer! Your two moon photos are stunning! I love the branches against that moon! I also love the photo of the hare! Poor Nova, not able to give chase, but best that she does not. Sune looks so big now. I think hooking the dogs up to a sled would be fun, but probably a recipe for disaster!!
We have gotten a LOT of snow, over two feet now, and still coming down. The snow plows have pushed snow into our driveway, it’s like a little mountain. No cars going out of the driveway anytime soon!
I am brewing vanilla macadamia nut coffee right now…nice treat for a snowy frigid day! Take care!

    • Hi Robin!

      I like those two too!

She took it calmly but never took her eyes away from that hare 🙂 🙂 🙂

Yes that would be a recipe for disaster 🙂 Nova had to be in the front, she is after all the queen of the universe and we all know where she would lead the others if she saw a hare 🙂 🙂 🙂

Sune isn’t that big to be honest, we weighed him at the vets office and he only weighs 16 kg (35 pounds) but his feets says he should have been much bigger 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ve never even heard of vanilla macadamia nut coffee before 🙂 I’ll just be happy for a cup of cocoa 🙂

      Have a great day!

Skaren bar mig i stort sett hela morgonpromenaden i morse.

  7. Do be careful!
I know you always are, but still.
That second photo? how did you do that? so cool.
love the deer ones. actually all the photos, but especially those.
    Poor little Nova 😦

    • Hi Cindi!

I just focused on the branches and they were enough far away so that the moon also got rather clear. It’s actually quite easy to take photographs of the moon if one can make ones own adjustments.

She’ll survive 🙂 To be honest I think it’s good exersice for her 🙂

      Have a great day!
