The signs are here :-)

The first crane has been spotted by the lake today 🙂 Theres always a few that comes way to early and then get a hard time surviving until spring arrives. They will most likely be fed all the time but nasty cold nights is tough for them anyway. We still have that wonderful springwinter weather but that will end by the end of this week they say. Winter will return for a while and they also say that the cold weather will stay for quite some time, but we all know how great they are predicting weather more than an hour ahead 🙂 🙂 🙂

We walked over the field just outside my cottage and met Rune and Lotta. They turned towards the forest because we came a bit too close.

But there are more, Last night I heard several geese flocks passing by in the darkness and today Trumpet swans, or as we call them Song swans, flew just above my neighbor’s house. The first snowdrop buds are showing above the snow but they won’t open up for weeks yet I’m afraid, but they are there anyway 🙂 Also the first pollen is flying around in the air making life tough for those allergic against it and that is as a sure spring sing as anything else 🙂

I even have sunflower seeds left in the feeders now so all the small birds are preparing for the coming families and are most certain looking for places to nest. But I still have just as many deers here so I will continue to feed them but I will put out less food as soon as the grass turns green again. I can see on Doris that she’s getting bigger now 🙂 and Rune needs all help he can get since he seems to have lost one of his eyes.

They had both returned to just outside my cottage when we arrived. They started to walk away again so I called after them and they stopped. As soon as I had poured out the food and closed the door to my cottage they came walking again :-)

I’m not sure I’ll write anything here on Thursday since we’re having the meeting about the municipal water and sewer system. Perhaps I’ll leave some info about how things went, I know people will hate each other after this meeting, those that wants this have already shown aggressive behaviour when one talks back to them 🙂 🙂 🙂

The first time they saw Teodor they jumped like crazy and ran away :-) Now they don't care and passes him only inches away.

No need to walk away any longer distance. Rune now sleeps in my garden sometimes :-)

  1. hi christer! haha…scary teodor. he frightened the big deer! glad you are still having your mild weather. i am just waiting for the storm to start here. we are supposed to get around 6 inces or maybe more. joyce

    • Hi Joyce!

It was so fun to see how they ran away from this rather fat little cat 🙂 But I guess they finally understood that he wasn’t a lynx kitten 🙂

6 inches or more! I sure hope we won’t gat that much snow before spring arrives.

      Have a great day!

  3. looks like spring is creeping in for you! Swans geese, cranes!!! Snow drop! We have still three or four feet of snow here, no sign of spring at all, I will tell you, before we made our move into the city we on the of out skirts a small village that was having water sewers put in, it was a fight believe me! many people on the out skirts of the village had no desire to hook up , they had water and septic tanks and were quite happy, The township argued that in order for exspansion of the villgae in future they wanted the lines put in. In the end the villagers (my family among them) had no choice, you were forced to have the sewers and water put in, at your cost, even if you didn’t want the hook up you still were required to have it enter your land. They just billed you on your taxes, no choice, there were many hot angry meetings in the town hall. That was ten years ago and the cost is 156 candian dollars per month for water and sewers with the hook up fee and extra charge, 3400 dollars. The water is piped into the village from Lake Huron, ( one of the Great Lakes) , the sewers are pumped into lines that go into huge ponds, two big ponds now mar the beautiful country side, all because the government decided all the small villages needed this modern water and sewers.Very sad, before we moved we were paying 5500 dollars a year taxes for 10 acres of waterfront land, no paved roads no garbage pick up, nothing, not even emergency services, a house similar to ours in this city we now live ( 80, 000 ) people is taxed at around 3000 dollars with all city amenities.People think Canada is a great cheap place to live but it isn’t and there are many weird quirks that are very annoying, thank goodness its beautiful! Sorry for the book, lol, but this was a tender subject to my husband and I.We had a wonderful artisan spring well, a brand new septic, even and out door toilet and we pumped water fom the lake for our out door shower and garden, the last thing we wanted was their pricey water and sewers.

    • Hi Laurie!

It’s just too early though, both March and April can be nasty winter months here. But I do hope for an early spring even if they say we won’t get that 🙂

This time though it’s some of the villagers that wants the water and sewer to our village. That’s why it will cost filthy much. The community of Falköping couldn’t care less 🙂 And those wanting it has shown before that they can be rather nasty people if they don’t get what they want. But I just refuse to pay that much for nothing, just tha chance of connecting later on if I so would wish. I will go to the meeting though and I will ask my questions 🙂 The price will be even higher than they say, of that I’m certain!

      Have a great day!

  4. Hi Christer,
I envy you the signs of spring. I’ve seen nothing here as far as green things. Maybe some moss but it’s hibernating. The birds seem to think it’s spring and are singing away. That’s something, I guess. There is still snow except now it’s really dirty and adds to the general dreary appearance outside.
I see that the little bull calves are testing each other.
Lotta looks in good shape. It’s hard to tell about Rune, though he looks fine as well. It’s good that he feels safe enough to sleep in your garden.
    Good luck at the meeting.
Enjoy the rest of the day.

    • Hi Caryn!

I love these signs even if I know they are way to early 🙂 Both March and April can be nasty winter months here.

They have plenty of calves on that farm this year 🙂 This is the first time in years that they got bulls and it is fun to see how they test each others strength 🙂

Yes it is hard to say anything about Rune, the eye is destroyed I think and he looks a bit scruffy to be honest. But he has a healthy apetite so I guess that he is ok.

I think we need all luck we can get 🙂

      Have a great day!

      • It’s a funny thing about wild animals but they tend to look scruffiest as they get into spring and summer. Some of it is from blowing their winter coats. One would think that good spring grass or good spring hunting would make them look sleek but they seldom do. They often look best in the middle of winter when they have full coats. I know the foxes and coyotes around here always look much better in winter than they do in summer. They almost look moth-eaten in summer and yet they are very healthy.

      • It’s much the same with Orvar 🙂 🙂 He starts shedding his fur just before spring arrives 🙂 But he then continues to shed his fur until late in summer 🙂

All that thick winter fur really make the animals looke healthy 🙂

  6. Oh boy the cranes are beginning to show up. You have a lot more signs of Spring than we do, drat you!!! LOL!
I love that Rune is comfortable enough with you to sleep in your garden. I would not be surprised if you get the deer to eat out of your hand!!

    • Hi obin!

Well we need all signs we can get even if they are way to early and colder weather is on its way 🙂

It’s never a good thing to ge a buck too tame, that can actually attack humans if they get tame. They see humans as competitors for the hinds and they can hurt really good with those antlers. Not the same problem with a doe though. But there are few animals that carry that many ticks as deers do so I rather see them leaving the garden as soon as spring arrives 🙂 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day!

    • Hi Jim!

You should have seen them 🙂 This fat little cat walked towards these big animals and they ran like crazy 🙂 🙂 🙂 Now they pass him without even looking towards him 🙂

The signs are almost gone now, below 32F temperatures again but blue sky and sunshine 🙂

      Have a great day!

  7. You are so kind. To take care of everyone as you do. 🙂
Too bad there’s no way to treat Rune’s face and where his eye had been. Hopefully he will survive the trauma of the injury.
Today, it’s warmer but snow is still on the ground. This weekend is supposed to be rain, to melt everything and then a mix of snow and rain on Sunday…which I dread, that’s the worst. Slick roads. 😦
Good luck with your meeting. :/

    • Hi Cindi!

I think that as long as Rune doesn’t get a serious infection in the eye he will be ok. He always walks with the same deers so I doubt he will be surprised by the lynx and he will survive winters since I and my neighbors feed him.

Nast cold here today but sunny 🙂 and it will stay much the same all weekend 🙂

The meeting went very well but I and lots of others won’t connect to the system 🙂

      Have a great day!
