And there it was.

 

The night was even colder than last night but as soon as the sun rose it warmed up quickly. At least it got warm where the sun reached, there was still ice on my pond at noon.  As usual on a Sunday morning we started walking in to the village and after a while I thought it would be fun to see if I could find the old grave yard by the church ruins.

 

 

I didn’t have high hopes because they abandoned the church in the 17th century and they didn’t return until 100 years later when they used the stones from that church to build the new one closer to the lake. It doesn’t seem to be anyone that knows why they abandoned that church but there’s theory that the village had been hit by the plague so often that they thought it must come from the plague victims buried by the church.

 

 

It’s strange but the ruins, or piles of stones as it actually is, is marked as an archaeological relic but there’s no sign with any kind of info there. I looked after something that could be grave stones but had no luck. But while we were walking around in the forest I came to think about a small lake (not the smaller lake I mention sometimes, this is a third lake) that is somewhere close to the ruins. I’ve seen it on maps but it can’t be seen from any roads going nearby. So why not search for it?

 

 

There is a sort of road that deforestation machines has done long ago so we followed it towards the place I thought the lake must be at. The forest there looks much like it did here when I bought this cottage, big spruces all over the place. Spring flowers flowered on spots where the sun reached the ground and I could hear lots of geese and trumpet swans just nearby. This, like the entire village, is a bird protection area so I didn’t want to get too close to the lake if we found it. But I could see a mire like area between the tree trunks and lots of pines further away.

 

Once there were lots of cottages in this village but most of them were allowed to fall appart when people moved away. This one still stands but just barely.

The cottage had a beautiful view though.

 

I thought the pines would be in the way but continued for a while anyway and there it was! A small forest lake. It was impossible to walk quietly due to lots of old and dry twigs and branches on the ground, so all birds had left when we arrived 🙂 I took a few photographs and started to walk homewards again because there was almost no power in the battery any longer 🙂 I did however see one trumpet swan gliding over the lake before we left.

 

Not all parts of the road was as good as this one 🙂

 

We were out for almost two hours and that was a bit too much for Hector. We went out for another walk around noon and I could see that his legs ached, so I’ve decided not to take any more walks today so he can rest properly until tomorrows afternoon walk instead. He gets the idea that he can run like when he was young when he has gotten his medicine and he always has to pay for it later on. The other dogs can run around in the garden, I’ll just have to keep an eye on Sune so he doesn’t run over to my neighbor and steal something again 🙂

 

Suddenly! There it was, the small lake.

It’s rather thin but fairly long. Perhaps pond is a better name for it 🙂 This is just a small part of it though.
