He did it again!

It’s hotter than hell and no wind to speak of. Not even the birds are especially active and it’s rather quiet to be honest. Only Hector moves around and I have just been yelling at him because now he found a new place to jump out of the garden. I knew he had gone out and it didn’t take more than a few seconds before he jumped over. It only took a few minutes until I shouted after him and he came running back. Now I’ll have to find a big enough branch and place it where he jumped over.

It’s strange really, sometimes it looks like he has big problems walking at all and suddenly he jumps over a fence 1,2 meter high (much the same in yards)🙂 His legs are bad, no doubt about that but perhaps not as bad as I have thought🙂 He might just be a great actor but usually it’s the other way around, they play more healthy than they really are.

Sometimes this tree stump has looked like a woman with a cape, so now I call it the Lady of the Bog🙂

I’m never in a good mode this time of year because I know things will change towards darker and colder times again. So I won’t participate in any celebration of our biggest holiday (together with Yule) here in Sweden, Midsummer. I’ll tell You more about that tomorrow. I will instead most likely replant lots of small plants of bushes, trees and grasses. Besides it will most likely rain an awful lot and thunder will accompany the rain too. Typical Midsummer weather :-)except for that it actually will stay rather warm. One year it was colder at midsummer than it was on New years eve that year🙂🙂🙂

Still not especially many flies here except for places where there’s lots of water, like down by the bog in the forest. We went down there this afternoon and I wished I had brought my mosquito hat. It isn’t easy to take photographs while flies are trying to walk in to the ears and nostrils🙂🙂🙂 But all flies left us as soon as we had left the water and wet grounds. So as You can understand my wish is that no rain will fall for many, many days🙂

It’s time to water everything I have in pots, like tomatoes, maples, pawpaw’s, persimmon’s, devils walking-stick, apricots and lots more. I usually never remembers to water annuals in pots but this time I do have a few and I’ve placed them beside all the ones I do remember (like the ones I mentioned)🙂

  2. Hi Christer,
It looks as though Hector has taken the tree blockade as a personal challenge. Pretty soon your entire fence line may be draped in tree limbs.🙂
You are having a hot day. Alaska is having a heat wave. It’s over 90ºF up there today and has been in the 90’s for several days now. They usually only get into the mid 60’s this time of year. But climate change is just a figment of our imagination and doesn’t really exist.🙂
It’s a lovely day here. Sunny and 73ºF or 67ºF depending on which weather service I use. No clouds. No rain in the immediate forecast. Perfect.
Enjoy your three day weekend. There are still plenty of lovely days ahead before we slide into the dark again.

    • Hi Caryn!

I don’t know what’s up with him? Perhaps he too is getting a bit senile and remembers how it was back in the days when the other neighbors and their dogs lived here.

This heat will only stay for tomorrow morning and then we go back to more normal temperatures. There’s a big heatwave down in Germany and eastwards though and it’¨s a bit early for them too. And natural climate change only is a figment of our imaginations🙂🙂🙂

Yes there are plenty of days still but soon it will be dark early again.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  3. hector must have the urge to wander, maybe he has a female he wants to visit, you photos of the dapple light forest are very calming, when we celebrate midsummer it just seems like in a blink Autumn comes so , our summers are very short lived, have a good day,

    • Hi Laurie!

There is no female dog living remotely close to this village, only males so that’s not the reason. Besides he is neutered🙂 Perhaps he too is getting a bit senile and only remembers the days when they could wander around like they wanted to?

I know just too well how short summers are since I live so much further north than You.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  4. what is up with hector? this is so weird! everyone here is excited about the start of summer. i sort of look at it as a joke because it is the beginning of the slide back to my kind of weather! my worst day is spring equinox!

    • Hi Joyce!

Perhaps he too is getting senile? remembering the days when they all were allowed to walk between the cottages? He was just a puppy when they could but I guess it has stayed in his memories. This is the beginning of the end of summer here, from now on it’s just downhill.

We’ll getrb Your kind of weather here too and it looks as if it will stay for over a week or more.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

      Christer.

    • Hi Cindi!

I don’t think he’s going to any partculat place. He just wanders around following smells I guess🙂 So man exitiung animals that poops out there You know🙂🙂🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  6. I love when trees or shrubs, etc, take on the shapes of familiar things. It is fun to see a woman in a cloak in the bog, as long as she is really just a tree stump!! Beautiful flower photos today, love that iris.
Hector is going to give you many gray hairs if he doesn’t stop his escape act, like Steve McQueen in “The Great Escape”!!! I hope he will soon forget about his escape plans.
Even though the Solstice is a turning point, there are still lots of days of light and warmth and gardening before the dark shall fall! We will have a bonfire, and some drumming. I am excited.

    • Hi Robin!

Who knows if that’s just a tree stump or something more? It’s always at the edge ofbthe eye that it looks like a woman and beings like the bog women or wood numfs are said to look like rotten tree stumps when they want to hide from humans🙂

It is a beautiful iris and I got it on a plant swapping day years ago. I must plant it elsewhere now since the plants beside it is getting very big.

I wonder if Hector too is getting a bit senile? Perhaps he remembers better things happening long ago, when he was a puppy and the neighbors wanted ourt dogs to walk around between our cottages and perhaps remember that better than what happened yesterday? I’ll just have to put something in front of the fnce on that spot too🙂

But I live so much further north than You do so we really don’t have that many days left of summer. Autumn starts at the end of August here.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  7. Like Joyce’s garden..looking at your pictures is nearly like being right there. Just beautiful..lush and green. NO rain for us, I’m afraid. Of course not many flies either. A few mosquito’s out front because of the fountain..but it’s worth it.
The flowers are beautiful too. How I wish we had a bit more rain in this part of the country.
I agree that it’s a pretty high jump for a dog that is having problems.🙂 At least he doesn’t run off.
    Mona

    • Hi Mona!

      I’m glad You like it🙂

I don’t mind the mosqitoes that much but the flies just drives me crazy🙂 but dry springs like this one keeps most of the flies in those few places there’s any kind of humidity in the ground. Unfortunatelt the rain that will come later today will bring them out from there to the village. I guess the birds will be happy though, so much easier to find food🙂

He must be a big actor because sometimes it looks like he won’t be able to walk at all, I guess he’s fooling me since he can jump that high every now and again🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.
