She looked so peaceful.
Once again the wind is blowing but even if the winds are strong I doubt it would be right to call it a storm this time but the low pressures are standing in line so there’s bound to be one or another these coming days 🙂 In mid November a bunch of American scientists/ meteorologists told us the winter would start here in mid December and perhaps become just as bad as the ones we had two and three years ago. Well the winter never arrived and now the same bunch of guys says we’ll get a warm winter instead and now cold weather or snow until spring. So now I fear the worst, if they were so wrong the first time what says they aren’t just as wrong this time 🙂 🙂 🙂
The trees on and around the old tombs have been pruned by cattle for a very long time.
Sorry about no blog yesterday, I just wasn’t in the mood to write anything and not even in the mood to be out in the blog world at all. I’m a morning person so when I stay up really late my entire world is upside down when I wake up at the usual time around 5am. I always wake up at that hour no matter how little I’ve slept, the nap I took didn’t help at all either.
The beaver created lake had grown big yesterday and could be seen from a long distance but it looked like the wall held fine. Today when we were walking to the bog the lake was gone! Still lots of water leading down to the creek though so I wonder in the last piece of the road now is flushed away. That would explain why the lake is gone but the ditches are full and it did rain almost all night and some today as well. I’ll go down there tomorrow to check it out.
The younger bulls sometimes try to determine whom is the strongest.
It’s rarely any violent affair to be honest.
But the looser runs away in shame, especially when a third bull meddles in the fight.
I know exactly how it looks at the bog since we walk there daily and today I saw in the corner of my eye that something was different. I couldn’t see what at first, it sort of looked like a new tree stump or something where it shouldn’t be one. So I turned my head and looked straight at a resting moose. None of my dogs noticed it so after taking a couple of photos we left it so it could continue to rest without getting disturbed. On our way back home I could hear a hunting dog from the neighbor area slowly running towards the bog. I don’t know what it followed but I sure hope it turned back before it reached the moose. There had been lots of wild hog activity this last night so it might have been hogs the dog chased.

She wasn’t especially bothered by us, just kept an eye on where we were moving.

Loved that you saw a moose, I save some of your pictures on my iPad, so I can go back and look at them anytime I like. How did that bread come out? Sounds delicious! Stay warm!

I would have walked down to see what has happened but the weather isn’t nice enough 🙂 But I must check it tomorrow. I’m pretty sure the beavers wall or what ever one should call it still is in one piece but my guess is that the road finally gave up 🙂
Those tombs are from the stone age and the broze age. We have them everywhere here. The cool ones however is some distance away from here, they even have a few menhirs there. I don’t know who’s buried in them but I guess the biggest ones have a chief in them. We have lots of smaller ones too and I guess more common people is buried in them.
The bread is still in the oven, but it sure smells nice right now and looks fine too 🙂

hi christer! i just love moose. we don’t have them hear but when we used to go to maine we would always see them. i can’t believe how little snow you have had this year. we are having a very rainy day today and then the temps plummet and we are going to be freezing! joyce

Beautiful animals but I don’t feel that comfortable close to them, they would try to kill me and my dogs if they felt they had a chance 🙂
Yes we have unusually little snow here this winter and I so hope it will stay that way 🙂 It happens every now and again so it isn’t unheard of. More common down by the ocean where I grew up though, so I guess that’s why I love a warm winter like this 🙂

Christer, so unfair of you to share that you are baking fresh bread on what looks like a dreary day because all I can think of now is how wonderful it will taste later on. We do like when the house is filled with baking smells, which are always the best kind, especially when Grenville baked cookies a few weeks ago. Glad the moose remained in the woods and looking rather peaceful and content. No need to apologize about not posting or even reading blogs, there is just so much time and so many other things to do at times. Enjoy your holiday break and relax. Not the best of days when it comes to the weather but that moose saved what could have been a miserable day 🙂
A moose can easily kill a human and it happens every now and again so I was quite happy about it staying at its place 🙂

I hope the dog was chasing boars and missed that moose. If your dogs didn’t smell her, maybe that one won’t either. Maybe the boar scent was overpowering. It usually is, I suppose. 🙂
You are probably correct about the road. It didn’t look in very good shape in the last photo you took.
There is often a little lake in my back swamp, especially when it rains heavily or for a long time. It disappears in a day or so. It’s not beavers. I think the soil is just too wet all the time, even in winter, for a lot of water to be absorbed at once. The area around the beaver dam would probably be like that, too.
Today is warmish and overcast. We are awaiting a heavy rain storm later today. That will be followed by deep freezer temperatures. I see the forecast temperatures steadily trending downward over the next several days until they are close to 0ºF and even in the minus numbers at night. I’m not looking at the 10 day forecast just in case it’s a continuing trend.
Don’t like it. Don’t want it. Make it go away. 🙂

It seems most hunts hogs now and doesn’t care about moose or deers. All hunters I’ve met lately have been looking for hogs. I just hoped she could stay where she was and not be disturbed by the dog. A calm moose is a nice moose 🙂 I don’t trust them for a second, they can kill a human without any problems and do so every year. By the way, Lotta was in my garden today, looking fine (well exept for that eye then, it looks bad).
Yes I think the road must have collapsed behind that wall the beavers have built. The ground is so filled with water now that it smells rotten. So the water level just must have been too high and swept away what was left. I’m not worried about the beavers though, the ditch leading to the creek is still full of water.
Not good to have deep freezing temperatures after a rain storm. I hate driving when that has happened! Well it’s never boring though 🙂 🙂 🙂 It will stay warm here for at least the entire next week.

How strange, disappearing lake, new lakes & reappearing lakes. Sounds like an episode of X-Files. Those weather “scientists” are pretty useless.. I do a lot of geneaology research online and I came across a 1914 newspaper from an agricultural area in NY State that had an article reporting that the paper would be trying out a new daily feature called a ” daily weather report”. They editor said that they did not believe that this new science would be better than the Farmer’s Almanac and if this new weather report didn’t work, the paper would stop printing it.
Too bad that was not the end of predicting the weather. My feeling is that I will know what the weather is when I look outside. The scientists can have all their doppler radar, but weather predicting is about as scientific as a crystal ball. It is useful for predicting big lightening storms & tornadoes right before they happen. But and exact science it is not.
Stay away from the moose. I told you how I was chased by a large male with a huge rack of antlers in Yellowstone
Nat’l Park. He didn’t like me taking his photo and charge me with no warning. I never ran so fast in my life and barely got away. I will have to see if I can find the picture of that Moose. They do not gradually pick up speed when they give chase, they just start out at full speed and stay there. Loved seeing the battle of the young bulls with the loser running away in shame.
Your house sound nice & cozy today with the smell of bread baking & nice and warm. It doesn’t take a lot of heat to make a small house too hot. My favorite heating was when I lived in a industrial loft for 10 years with radiator heat. The heat was not dry like electric or gas, it was nice & moist so your skin didn’t dry out & the plants loved the warm moisture,Actually, I saved a lot of money on heating when I lived there. The boiler pipe gave off more than enough heat so I never had to turn the radiator itself on. It usually was so warm in the Winter that I had to leave the window open a bit at night or it got too warm to sleep.
It really does mess up your day when your sleep gets disrupted.You & I are on the exact opposite sleep cycles. I used to get up at 5AM for many years. Once I stopped working, my sleep pattern changed to being a night owl. I usually go to sleep around 4 AM and wake up at 10 AM. I have tried changing it. but finally gave in to this is what it is going to be. Fine when I do not have to go out, but I miss a nights sleep when I have an early morning appointment. I haven’t looked up the time difference between your part of Sweden and Pacific West Coast time. It must be about 9 hours earlier out her than your time. So about the time you are getting up to walk the dogs, I am just going to sleep. I always thing it feels strange on New Year’s Eve when you will be in the year 2014 and we Americans will still be in 2013. As you can tell, I am easily amused, Enjoy your last couple of days in 2013.

I don’t trust those weather scientists either, I just hope they’ll get it right at least one time 🙂 They can barely predict the weather for the coming five hours sometimes 🙂
I do my best to stay away from those moose’s but sometimes it’s impossible. I’ve been lucky twice this last six months, this time she just looked at us with her ears towards us, last time it was a bit worse sincé the moose had its ears backwards and was prepared to chase us. But I guess a moose is like a dog, doesn’t understand tghe difference in size but understands the difference in numbers, we were five against one moose so we won 🙂 Most of us do understand how dangerous they really are but people from te big cities just think they are cute and cuddly. Not so cuddly to get a kick in the head from it though 🙂
I never had the heat on when I lived in an appartement, the heat from the appartements beneath mine was enough tp keep me warm and nice 🙂 But the heat was included in the rent as well as the water I used so I never had to think of that thankfully. My stove saves me a lot of money though, I only have three radiators on and this winter they’ve barely worked at all 🙂 One of the reasons I love warm winters 🙂
Yes it does, I’m not back to normal yet. I’ve always been a morning person and rarely change that even during summer vacation. So I guess I’ll keep on being one. But who knows what will happen when I retire 🙂 Yes we are nine hours ahead of You so for a short while there we will be living in different years 🙂
