What to do?

Hector.

Hector.

I started to work an hour early this morning because I was going to leave my car at the garage so they can fix the breaks and change oil and some other small things before the annual vehicle inspection. I like my little Mazda and as long as it’s cheaper to repair it than buying another car I thought I would keep it. But I know more and more things must be repaired soon so I was thinking this might be the last year for the little one, my Piglet as I call it.

The garage owner had promised me that he would have a car that I could borrow during the time I had mine at the garage and there it stood, a Saab Estate (I think it’s called 95) -01, blue and with a 2,3 liter engine with a turbo. Just as I was going to drive away he said, You can buy it for 7000 Swedish kronor (that would be around $ 1076 US). That’s not a good thing to say just before the old one is going to be repaired πŸ™‚ I can’t find any rust at all on it and it’s so clean inside that it feels like new πŸ™‚ So now I’ve sent lots of text messages to my work friend that knows a lot about cars (and has a similar Saab himself) He also knows people that sells spare parts cheap just in case anything would break.

The beavers haven’t done any more work since we were there the last time.

It isn’t much money so that’s not a problem and it is an estate (or do You call them hatchback?) All my dogs would fit in it without any problems, they have already checked without my permission because I left a door open πŸ™‚ I do hope I can clean it before I possibly leave it at the garage tomorrow, well if I don’t buy it that is πŸ™‚ A Saab feels safe and it has heat in the winter, something all small Mazda’s seems to lack πŸ™‚ The car taxes will be much! higher and the insurance cost too and it drinks more petrol too but not that much to be honest. It also has climate control, something I’ve never had before πŸ™‚

I told him I would call him early tomorrow morning, there’s no use in fixing my old car if I’ll buy this one. there are a few things that needs to be fixed but he said he’ll do that. It leans towards buying it, if for no other reason that it is soooo comfortable πŸ™‚ I’ll let You all know tomorrow what my decision will be.

It’s time for a pot of tea and something to eat. I’ll start working an hour early tomorrow too since the plan was that I was going to get my old car back. Well I need to go to the garage anyway if I’m going to buy this one πŸ™‚ It’s a bit funny really, I usually hate buying another car but I don’t feel a thing right now, usually I always feel so sorry to have to leave the car I own πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

By the way! The first Crane has arrived to the lake, one month early!

  1. Hi Christer! Good luck with your decision on the car, I can’t wait to hear what tomorrow will bring and your decision! I currently drive a Nissan Cube and I love it. I will never drive another car again. Have a good day!

    • Hi Dianna!

I have never seen a Nissan Cube so I had to check it on the net. Looks like something that I would like to have, lots of space and the thing I don’t like with my little Mazda is that it’s solow. No problems with that on a Nissan Cube πŸ™‚

I’m still not sure what to do πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  2. hi christer! i wonder if the cranes will return early due to the warm winter? wow…what a deal on that car! my sone just had his car in the garage being repaired and i had to spend almost that much in his rental. actually, i think i spent more than that. my sister has saabs and loves them. we have a big storm on the way for tonight. joyce

    • Hi Joyce!

They most likely will return early if this weather stays.

It ios a good price and I will eventually pay more if I keep my little Mazda. I’ll need to talk to the garage owner some more tomorrow morning before I decide what to do. But I think it would be a good idea to buy it. especially since it’s the garage owner that owns it and I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t destroy his good reputation over a car πŸ™‚

Anothar one! This is a truly strange winter!

Have a great day and keep warm!
      Christer.

  3. What to do, what to do! I’m thinking you have already decided and are going to go with the Saab! We shall see tomorrow! Good luck with the new car! LOL!

    • Hi Wendy!

There are pro’s and con’s. It is a more expensive car in most ways but it is big enough for both my dogs and me πŸ™‚ and I don’t think the garage owner would risk his good reputation over a car πŸ™‚ I will most likely spend almost as much money if I repair this car, it has started to rust here and there too so that will cost a lot too. I need to talk more to the woner before I decide how I’ll do but as You suspect, it’s leaning towards the Saab πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  4. I used to have a SAAB. I loved it. It has been probably 15 years ago. The problem was the repairs. It was always $500 every time something went wrong. We weren’t too sure if the odometer had been set back…..which is illegal. But it was a fine car. So safe and so comfortable. If you can get parts at a good price and someone to fix it…..go for it. Mine was a baby blue.

    • Hi Debby!

I’ve always liked Saab too but have only owned one. It’s a good thing it’s a Swedish car so there are plenty of spare parts around. But the Saab designers and technicians have always had a mind of their own so repairs are usually a bit more expensive than necessary to be honest. But not if one have friends that can do them πŸ™‚

Many odometers are set back and I think it is as illegal everywhere πŸ™‚ Saab is a safe and very! comfortable car even if this one is twelve years old or so πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  5. I would not have any idea what decision I would make if I were you. I am familiar only with American made cars and my Toyota truck which I love! NO repairs except for battery once. Mine was brand new with no milage at all and only has 47000 miles after 13 years. It’s a 2000 prerunner. I have heard good things of the SAAB so I wish you good luck. If it has low milage…it may be a good buy. Whatever the case, Christer, good luck!

    • Hi Mona!

I have very little knowledge of cars even if I’ve worked at Volvo for over twenty years πŸ™‚ My Mazda has been fantastic but it will cost just as much or even more to get it fixed.

I’ve never owned a brand new car and I doubt I ever will unless I win the lottery of course πŸ™‚

Saab is a good car but a bit odd in some ways. Very common here though since it is a Swedish car.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

      Christer.

  7. Hi Christer,
Sounds like a good deal. I’m always suspicious of good deals, though. πŸ™‚ I would take it to some one I trust and have it checked out thoroughly to be sure there aren’t any expensive repairs that might suddenly pop up after I’ve paid for the thing.
Having said that, one of my best cars was a Studebaker Commander I bought for $35.00 USD from the guy that fixed my cars. It was forty years ago but, even then, $35.00 was a no brainer. The owner’s father had bought her a new car and she just didn’t want that old thing anymore. It had some interesting issues but nothing that I couldn’t live with. It was a fun car. And everything on the dashboard worked! Even the clock! I’d never had a used car where the clock was still working. πŸ˜€
If you don’t buy the Saab, you might check out the Honda Element (if they sell them in Sweden). I have it on good authority that it will hold two people, their 3 dogs, 5 hugely oversized antique Victorian picture frames and a dead deer. Should be good for you. πŸ˜€

Another storm is coming in today right about the time I have an appointment. This is a yearly doctor thing and every time I go there, it snows. Hmm.

Enjoy the day and have fun deciding on the car.

    • Hi Caryn!
I am always suspicious about good deals too but the car is after all almost thirteen years old so I don’t think it is that a good deal after all πŸ™‚ AND I don’t get any summer tires, those I need to buy later this spring πŸ™‚ Too bad I can’t use the new ones I bought for the Mazda πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I think the best car I’ve ever had was a Citroen Visa, a car with a very bad reputation. I bought it for $154 US and counted it would last only one summer πŸ™‚ I had it for three years and didn’t have to go to the garage even once and it drank almost no petrol either. But when it broke down it did it thoroughly πŸ™‚

Hond has a reputation of being very expensive here since every spare parts needs to be impoorted from Germany I think. All Japanese cars have that problem over here so repairs usually get rather epensive.

Take it easy on the roads! No storm here at the moment but we’re having a calm little snowfall at the moment.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

    • Hi Cindi!

Well I’m not sure I have car fever, mor car angsiety πŸ™‚ I always have that when it’s time to cghange πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.
