I’ve done so much today.
I’ve been very active this morning, Besides walking like we always do I’ve also vacuumed all floors, I’ve mowed the lawn, washed my laundry and now I’m baking a bread. I realised that baking the bread after vacuuming wasn’t the best Idea I’ve had but Sune saw to it that not too much flour reached the floor 🙂 Today I’m baking “I toss in anything I might have at home” bread. So I have vanilla yoghurt, cheese, a mix of wheat and rye flour, anise, fennel and some honey. I have no idea how this will taste but I like all ingredients so the outcome must taste fantastic 🙂
The water level is so low and the vegetation so big and green that it was hard to even see the creek most times.
I thought that since the tick repellant spray worked so good we might as well walk upstream the creek today, we went out early so I thought it would be chilly enough to keep the forest flies calm and that was a big mistake. The sun heated up the air so fast that both the forest flies and the mosquitoes were very active. I don’t mind the mosquitoes as much as the flies, especially now since I’ve become immune towards the itching. But I swinged the leashes in the air above ny head every now and again so that I at least worried the flies for a few seconds each time 🙂
Lots of high grass on the road so this is truly tick infested. So far I’ve only seen one tick and it walked on Sunes head. I don’t spry on the head so that was to be expected.
We didn’t see any animals but we heard two moose running around in the forest not far from us. I could see the tracks after them on our way home and it was a moose cow and her calf that had been worried by our presence. No signs of hogs anywhere lately so I guess the hunting of them have been successful. Lots of smaller butterflies are flying around now, they look just like cabbage butterflies but just half the size and dragonflies, lots of them but they just refuse to stay still long enough to get a good photo of them.
This doe was limping a little, I think she hit her leg when she tried to jump the fence when she saw us.
This one however couldn’t care less about us, so I’m pretty sure she’s one of my deers.
I have sticky flypaper even in the bathroom now, I don’t know how they got in, the flies that is, because I have nets on all windows and doors that stays open during the day. Most of them got caught yesterday but there are still a few annoying ones flying around here. I rarely use poison to kill them because I want the spiders to have something to eat (spiders don’t die from insecticides, they are no insects) and I doubt that those insecticides are especially healthy for us humans and dogs either. I often laugh out loud when I read garden articles in the news papers saying “This is the way You can get more insects in Your garden”. They are of course thinking of bumblebees and butterflies and the odd beetle but what they don’t say is how many other insects there will be, the annoying and biting ones 🙂

I don’t mind if some weeds grow in the flower beds, like the white on. We call it Hundkex (dog biscuits) but I have no idea why 🙂
I’ll do nothing especially active for the rest of the day as soon as the bread is out of the oven. From that moment I’ll just relax, drink tea and eat a sandwich or two. It’s rising for the first time at the moment and it looks good. I might however walk around here in the cottage with a fly swatter killing flies and talking with a german accent like they always do in WW2 movies (for no other reason that I like the sound of that accent) and I might even laugh hysterical each and every time I kill one of them, with a german accent too of course 🙂

All flowers froze on the common lilac 🙂 but the hungarian lilac managed to avoid that. I don’t mind because these smell much less. You can also see Frost grape (or River grape) growing to the right.

it sounds like that should be a good loaf of bread! i love your bleeding hearts. i bought two this year and forgot to plant them and i might have lost them. this is the time of year when i get lazy about planting. i think i am planted out! we have rain on the way so no watering today for me.

It was but I was worried when I first smelled it, quite odd 🙂
I do like the bleeding hearts and they go through a lot every year and still survives 🙂 But they do need to get out of those pots.
Now is the time when it’s too warm to plant anyway, so better wait till autumn to do things like that 🙂
Sunny and warm for at least a week they say. Not Your kind of warm though, around 75F.

Hi Christer,
I’m trying to imagine Swedish with a German accent but can’t do it. I don’t know enough of either language.
When I had a horse, I used to use the few German words I knew on him if he was being a pain in the butt. It seemed to work much better than English. Probably because those words sounded growly to begin with and I could make them growlier.
The bumpy grass picture is cool. It looks like the part of the cow pasture or horse pasture where they all poop. The grass grows over the piles.
So far I have done nothing today except get dressed and feed the dog and myself breakfast. It’s still early but I did everything yesterday and the day before. I’m free to play. 🙂
Your bread sounds delicious. When I used to bake bread I would often make Whatever I have Around That Needs to be Used bread. It was not always successful but it always tasted good. Fresh hot bread out of the oven always tastes good. 🙂
It’s sunny. It will be warm again but acceptably so.

Well if I want to sound like a WW2 movie I might speak in that way but in english too 🙂
German is a hard language so even if one say something nice it sounds angry anyway 🙂 Finnish is just the same, nothing sounds kind in finnish 🙂
I think that’s just what it is, high grass where the cows have pooped 🙂 looks like waves on the sea.
It did turn out very good! But I feared the worst a while when I felt how it smelled, very odd 🙂 Thankfully it didn’t taste anything like the smell 🙂 It got even better with some butter spread on it too 🙂
Thankfully there’s a wind blowing otherwise it would have been too warm here.

Christer, it’s also interesting to me to read that yiu bake a loaf of bread with whatever you have available and then hope for a good result. It seems that many people, including ourselves, fuss more with temperature and rise times and we do not always get food results. Hope yours was as good as it sounded because nearly all the ingredients are things we enjoy too. I enjoy seeing all the forest photos but would not enjoy walking through with all the flies, ticks and mosquitoes which would find me very fast.

I more or less do the bread in the same way every time (only different ingredients really) so I’m fairly sure that it will rise properly. But this time I used the electric oven and I’m not used to do that 🙂 The bread turned out to be rather tasty 🙂 but the smell did scare me a bit, very odd 🙂
I should have brought my mosquito hat but I thought it was going to stay chilly for almost the entire walk. I’ll bring it next time 🙂 The tick spray seems to work very good thankfully!

Hi Christer! What a day you have had! Sundays are typically more relaxed but today I vaccumed and mopped all the floors, still doing laundry and thinking about baking peanut butter cookys. I seem to have some sort of allergy at the moment – very stuffy and sneezy. I don’t think its a cold because I don’t have a sore throat. I hate sore throats. We have a slightly rainy day today, the sun desperately wants to come out but the clouds are not letting him shine. Its been cooler here too, since Friday. We need some heat so my garden can grow! I hope you got rid of those pesky flies, but I did laugh at your comment about walking around swatting them with an accent. That’s funny! Have a good rest of Sunday!

I normally take Saturdays of from work at home, Sundays are always for the laundry, cleaning up in the cottage and in summer lawn mowing.
I don’t always get a sore throat when I get a cold and I know there’s some kind of flu going on in Canada. I’m not sure what’s worse because allergies can go on all summer and flu in summer time can stay for rather long too. It’s like chosing between the plague or the cholera (swedish saying). No matter what You have I hope it will pass quickly!
We’ve had a really nice summer day here and it will continue for the entire next week they say and I’ll believe it when it happens 🙂
Still lots of flies indoors but the sticky fly paper is doing it’s job.
Well one has to have fun while swatting flies 🙂

You have done so much…and I so little. Still in pj’s and drinking morning coffee and eating an english muffin. Mele can smell toast outside in the yard and since that is her favorite snack she methodically stood at the back door barking..one pleading “yip” at a time until I caved in and brought her in. Lazy day.
Love the flower pictures..love the green everywhere…however..all those insects..especially the flies, I would hate. We see an occassional one here..but rarely, thank heavens. Do you ever wear one of those nettings over a hat like I have seen some do that are in fly and insect country? 🙂 Just wondering. We do have some flies here, tiny mean ones that will bite..and if I could do the German accent when I killed one I just might. However…I admit to cackling like the wicked witch of the WEST… heh heh!! Let us know how your bread turns out. 🙂

I thought that one would get used to these flies after at least a few years but no, they are still just as disgusting 🙂 🙂 🙂 But I’m not bothered by the mosquitoes any longer, thankfully 🙂
Yes I do have my mosquito hats and this is the time to start using them 🙂

Wow! you were busy!
Right now in the Midwest we are battling little biting gnats.
Luckily they say that they will be dead and gone in a month.
That photo of the iris in front of the wire fence…so lovely that I’ve gone back to look at it several times!

We have midges here but they don’t like me 🙂 nast flies otherwise and if they are plenty enough they can kill a moose.
