This is the summer we wish for but almost never get.

Yes it is Wednesday but it is and will get even hotter during the day so I really can’t du much else anyway, so no day of from the blog ๐Ÿ™‚ We reached 33C (91,4F) for a short while here yesterday, just before a tinyย thunderstorm passed by. It mumbled some and it rained some but I didn’t even get wet on my feet after walking out shortly after it stopped raining ๐Ÿ™‚ But it did feel much colder because the temperature dropped to 25C (77F), I actually felt cold for a while ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s already 27C (80,1F) and it’s not even 12 o’clock yet. We have a few clouds in the sky and I can see that they already are building up to become thunder clouds. This morning however was pretty nice, thick fog and 10C (50F) so I thought a walk to the bog would be nice and perhaps give me a few nice photos. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed when it turned out there was no fog what so ever out there ๐Ÿ™‚ So we walked back and I should have stayed near my home because that’s where the fog was all the time ๐Ÿ™‚

A bit hazy perhaps but that was it.

ย But I really can’t ask for better weather during my vacation, this is what we usually wish for but never gets so we really don’t know how hot this is ๐Ÿ™‚ and since the humidity is very low right now it is bearable, well at least as long as one doesn’t do anything more than breathe ๐Ÿ™‚ I nice breeze has started to blow as well so now it’s kind of nice again. I had one window open all night on the bottom floor (I checked the mosquito net thoroughly) and hoped for the chimney effect, that the hot air upstairs would blow out through the open window in my bedroom, dragging cool air with it on its way out. I’m not sure it worked as I hoped but it was pretty cold downstairs when I woke up this morning ๐Ÿ™‚

I need to fix some kind of tiny floating jetty for one of the water barrels. This morning I saw a sparrow trying to drink some water from it but the water level is a bit too far down so it almost fell down into it. It happens that they actually falls down and drowns and I really don’t want that. It’s strange that they don’t li,e the bird bath I’ve given them ๐Ÿ™‚ It would have been so much more practical if they used that.ย

It’s time for a pot of tea and to find a place where it is slightly less hot, the livingroom is on the shadowy side of my cottage so I think that’s the best place to be right now. I do have the cool cellar but my dogs don’t want to stay down there for more than a few minutes. In worst case I’ll force them down no matter what they think of it ๐Ÿ™‚ but it looks like thunder and hopefully a bit cooler air is on the way.

  1. Golden yellows and soft muted colors in these photos do showcase summer weather, Christer. I do smile when you mention the overnight temperatures being near 80 degrees F as that is not uncommon for us living where we do in VA. When you mention the mosquito netting, I wondered if the window did not have screens.

    • Hi Beatrice!I think we Swedes love it more in our imagination than in the real ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

It does soften up the world a lot ๐Ÿ™‚

I do often wonder how You can manage these temperatures during summer ๐Ÿ™‚ We usually have a screen on one or two windows as most, normally we don’t have windoiws open during nights just because of the cool temperatures. I don’t have any screens any more instead I fasten the nets with velcrow straps. Works just as good and I don’t have to store any screens during winter.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  2. hi christer! i can’t get over how hot your weather is. in all the years i’ve known you, i don’t remember you ever having weather this hot. someone should have had a camera on teddy and me this morning. a few drops of rain started to fall as soon as we went out this morning. within seconds, we were in an unbelievable downpour. at first, teddy was under her umbrella. but then the thunder and lightening started and the wind was blowing. i had waves of water on my patio and driveway. i couldn’t find teddy. i was screaming at the top of my lungs but could hardly hear myself because of how hard it was raining and blowing. finally i found teddy laying under some trees. when she came inside, she was so wet that she looked like half her normal size. i ran to get a towel to dry her off and when i came back there was a huge puddle of water that came off of her. i was drenched through to my skin. meanwhile, paul and brendan were sound asleep and never heard a thing. i told them i now know that someone could break into the house and murder me and they would never wake up. it was quite a morning! joyce

    • Hi Joyce!

Oh how I wish You had had a camera on ๐Ÿ™‚ Poor Teddy and You of course ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve been lucky those times I’ve been caught in downpours like that because I’ve been close to the neighbors stable ๐Ÿ™‚

I can sleep through thunder storms like that too but other times I can wake up by a tiny sound from somewhere in my home.

It was similar tothis last summer but before that we never even came close to this heat. Tomorrow will be even hotter and much the same on Friday and Saturday but after that it will cool down. Very odd climate now days!

Have a great day and keep away from those thunderstorms ๐Ÿ™‚

      Christer.

  3. Hi Christer,
Don’t you wish you could bottle perfect summer days and save them to use later on? But if you bottled them, you couldn’t enjoy them when they happen, I guess. You’d have to settle for less than perfect summer days. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lots of lovely flower pictures today. What is that luscious purple one that looks like a poppy?

The chimney effect is not all it’s cracked up to be. It works better if you have a big whole house fan in the attic to suck all the hot air up and out. Regular fans help some, too.

It’s hot and humid here today. Not much of a breeze either. I turned the AC on around 8:30 AM, right after our morning walk. It was like a steam bath outside. The dogs went off to the groomer for a couple of hours and by the time I picked them up the house was lovely and cool.
The temperature is supposed to drop steeply by tomorrow and we have thunderstorms in the forecast for a day or so.

    Enjoy the day.

    • Hi Caryn!

Yes I do, Just imagine how wonderful it would be to buttle up one of these days on a dreary wiunter day ๐Ÿ™‚ I could take one of these really hot days to remind me of how tough it can be during summer ๐Ÿ™‚

It is a poppy ๐Ÿ™‚ The one that they make opium from and whos seeds we have on our breads sometimes. The seedlings from it looks pretty much the same, some variations but not too big.

I realized that ๐Ÿ™‚ It works great in achimney cold winter days but not so much a hot day during summer ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
It’ll be much the same here until Sunday, well I got the summer I wanted so I can’t really complain ๐Ÿ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  4. Christer..your pictures just get better and better. I’ve been following you for a couple of years or more now and I think the pictures you take now would have won that prize. I really do. GORGEOUS! ๐Ÿ™‚
Cellar? I’m with the dogs…No cellars for me either. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Hi Mona!

      Thank You ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m torn when it comes to cellars, they can be useful but they can also mean big problems in heavy rainfalls, they seems always to be flooded ๐Ÿ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  5. Hi Christer –

Sounds like you are still having a tropical heat wave. We had out first rain in many weeks last night and it is 30 degrees cooler than it has been all month. I had to take Toby to the vet early this morning and the streets were so slick that my tires had trouble getting traction and other cars were sliding around because of the oil build-up on the roads. It is usually a bit of a problem when it has not rained in a long time, but today I tried to keep a good distance between myself & the car in front of me as soon as I realized on slippery the roads were. I’m sure there will be lots of accidents on tonight news. We are supposed to get thunderstorms later today, then we will be back into the 95 degree temps. by the weekend. When I lived on the East Coast everyone had a cool cellar you could live in when the weather was really hot, but when I moved to the West I found hardly any houses have cellars/basements. I am not quite sure why they don’t build cellars out here. Maybe because it rains so much and they would be too easy to flood.

Your photos today are great as usual. The colors of the different flowers are so rich & saturated. The spider webs always remind me of my favorite children’s book Charlotte’s Web. Charlotte the spider would spin words into her webs to help keep Wilbur the pig from being killed. So if you come across some webs that say “What a pig” or “Some pig” on your morning walks I may have to start believing Charlotte has a Swedish cousin in the bog.:).

I had bought a ice cream maker a couple of years ago and finally tried it out yesterday. I decided to make strawberry sorbet with some of the berries I had frozen last month. I just threw the strawberries, sugar & lemon juice in the machine and 30 minutes later, the sorbet was ready for the freezer. It was so good I ate a good bit before I forced myself to put it into the freezer to finish hardening. I have some popsicle molds so I was thinking of making some with fresh peaches and chunks of fruit in them. That way when the hot weather returns this weekend I will have frozen treats to help keep cool.

Enjoy your summer weather while it lasts.

    • Hi Ellen!

We sure do and today is the day that will be really hot according to predictions ๐Ÿ™‚

      I hope Toby is ok!
We rarely have that problem here, I’ve heard about it a few times during my life and I guess this might be the week I’ll hear about it again. I have actually been driving in similar conditions but it wasn’t due to the heat, there was something wrong with the new asphalt they put on the road ๐Ÿ™‚ It was worse than sliding around on black ice. In winter we’re all prepared to slide around on slippery roads but not during summers ๐Ÿ™‚

That is the big problem with cellars! They always seems to flood when those heavy rainfalls comes. The ground around my cottage is mostly sand so I’ve never had that problem thankfully. I would rather had had a real root cellar than what I have now though.

That sorbet sounds delicious ๐Ÿ™‚ I used to have those popcicle molds but I have no idea where I might have them now days, well I can always buy new ones, they don’t cost much. But I have frozen berries in the freezer that I eat a few every now and again ๐Ÿ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  6. Eighty seems warm but not “Hot”.
Right now at 9 0’clock its 79 here and that’s not hot.
but I guess it’s all what you are used to. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I don’t want to jinx our weather but we’ve only had a couple of days in the 90’s.
Not like last year when every single day was in the 90’s or 100’s
and it wasn’t the dry heat that Arizona gets. Nope humid.
Like a wet towel is on you.
If the temps where always high 60’s to low 70’s I would be in Heaven!

    • Hi Cindi!

Yes it has all to do what one is used to. 79 here is unusually warm in the morning and is considered to be a very warm symmers day. Lately we’ve reached 86 up to the 90’s here and the young people might think it’s ok but the older we are the worse this is. I still think it’s rather ok as long as the humidity is low but if that rises I just can’t stand it ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m getting old ๐Ÿ™‚

      Have a grat day!
      Christer.
